
Urbis: You use relatively unconventional materials in your furniture pieces (PVC, concrete, semi-precious stones). What drives you to these?
Jack Craig: I’m not an expert at anything. I’m not a carpenter, stoneworker, or metalsmith. It’s more ‘learn as you go’. I think this frees me up to do more things the ‘wrong way’. I try everything I can think of – any material is fair game. The drive really is to change how I understand it and react to it. I’m surrounded by industry. You source what is available to you. Detroit is down-cycling out of being an industrial economy, but it’s still all around you.
